Obituary for Floyd Preston Horton
Floyd Preston Horton 74 transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday July 28, 2015 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Edenton, N. C. Born to the late Floyd Fitzgerald and Jessie Law Horton in Bluefield, West Virginia ��where he attended the local public schools and graduated from High School. ��He furthered his education at Marshall University where ��he received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. ��He did Post Graduate work at The Ohio State University and completed additional work in educational administration. �� Floyd was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. ��Eventually he moved with his family to Elizabeth City, North Carolina where he was principal of Central Elementary School in Maple, N, C, and later employed at the College of the Albemarle as Associate Dean for Continuing Education. �� He served as president, then chairman, of the East Area Health Education Center. ��He was also active in educational and civic activities, including the state Basic Law Enforcement Training Curriculum Revision Committee, the N. C. Diabetes Advisory Council and the Regional Emergency Medical Service Advisory Council. ��He had also been a member of the zn. C. Community College Adult Educators Association andd the N. C. Chapter of the Southern Regional Council on Black American Affairs.�� A Memorial Celebration will e held on Monday August 3, 2015 in the Chapel of Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 A. M. by the Rev. R. Rodney Robinson, Officiating. ��Rev. Dr. Walter L. Smith, Jr. is Pastor of the Church. �� ��Family visitation will be Monday from 10:00 A. M. until the time of service followed by Military Honors. Burial will be Tuesday August 4, 2015 at 11:00 A, M. in Raleigh National Veterans Cemetery, Raleigh, N. C. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Judith Charlene Horton. �� He leaves to cherish his memory One Daughter; Danielle Horton Hawkins and her husband David of Raleigh, North Carolina. ��Four Grandsons; Lamar Hawkins, Devin Hawkins, Traemani Hawkins, and Tyree Hawkins of Raleigh, N.
