Obituary for Lena S. Foreman
Lena S. Foreman, a teacher in the Greenville City Schools system for 44 years, passed away Thursday at the Kindred - Sunnybrook facility in Raleigh. She was 98. Mrs. Foreman was the daughter of John James Smith and Lena Inez Bell, born in Plymouth, M. C. on September 18, 1915. She was a 1936 graduate of Fayetteville State University who joined the Greenville school system and taught at both C. M. Eppses High School and Aycock Middle School. She retired from the system in 1980. Although she stepped away from the classroom, she never failed to keep track of the students who sat before her throughout her career. Mrs. Foreman was preceded in death by Tom, her husband of 34 years. She is survived by her son, Thomas, Jr., and his wife Jeri of Winston - Salem; two grandchildren, Thomas lll, a student at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; and Katherine, a student at Franklin & Marshall University in Lancaster, Pa; and by the hundreds of students she mentored and ultimately befriended following her retirement. A Graveside service is scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 P. M. at Brownhill Cemetery in Greenville. Condolences may be made to the family at www.robinsonfuneralandcremation.com. A. C.
