Marian, lived in Crawford Township, Currituck County, North Carolina until her early teens, she moved to New York where she resided in Harlem for more than 70 years.
Marian attended and graduated from the North Carolina Public Schools of Currituck County. She attended Moyock Colored School (Elementary), and Currituck County Training School. She attended many school reunions over the years. Marian was a very outgoing and made plenty of friends. Marian gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who she named Gailene on July 21, 1949.
Marion moved to NYC and soon after settling in Harlem, she was hired at Florence Nightingale Nursing Home from July 7, 1968 until she retired on May 25, 1994, as a Nurses Aide. As a result of great work, she continued taking care of her family and friends, during her time on this earth. Marian loved visiting her family and friends in North Carolina. When she could Marian would attend family reunions as well as events.
Marian was a loving mother to Gailene and a awesome, compassionate grandmother nod great- grandmother to Kenneth, Frederick, and Daequan.
Marian was a passionate member of Shiloh Church of Christ for over 50 years. She was the President of the Nurses Unit. Although she retired from Nightingale, she continued to support, oversee, and deliver love for helping others at Shiloh Church of Christ. She was called on by the Lord to guide others and that’s what she did. Marian knowledge and commitment to her church was unprecedented.
Marian cherished legacy.
Marian H. Dunton leaves behind her beloved daughter Gailene a. Dunton - Marshall. Predeceased by (Son-in-law) Kenneth Marshall Junior (Harlem, NY) Grandson, Frederick Marshall (Harlem, NY), Frederick’s Son, who is her only Great- grandson, Daequan Henry of (Garfield, N. J.) and a loving god daughter, Jocelyn Etheridge- Collins.
Her beloved and cherished sister, Thelma B. Dunton of (Harlem, NY) A niece Shirley R. Jordan (Patterson, New Jersey) and a host of nieces and nephews. She also had a host of Great- great- nieces and nephews,
