Raised in a Christian home she joined New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church after marriage and remained a faithful member until she was called to Glory. A graduate of Norfolk State University she was employed many years as a Registered Nurse.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her legacy: One Daughter; Arelia Sawyer Royle (Tony) of the home, One Son: Richard E. Sawyer (Lynn) of Newport News, Virginia. Three Sisters: Barbara Bracey of Flint, Michigan, Joann Gray of Virginia Beach, Virginia, & Martha Sawyer (William) of Shawboro, North Carolina. One Brother Rudolph Spellman (Mamie) of Moyock, North Carolina. Three Grandchildren; Carlynn Lucas, William Saunders, and Tyrelia Mercer. Two Great Grandchildren; Kaleb and Kara J. Lucas. One Sister In Law; Katherine Sawyer Spellman: A Special Nephew: Robert Cowell, Jr. (Delain), and a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday February 8, 2022 at New Shiloh Baptist Church, Shiloh, North Carolina by Rev. William T. Davis, with Burial following in West Lawn Cemetery Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
