Obituary for Doris Overton Allen
Doris "Doll" Overton Allen, 88 of 1205 Harris Drive departed life on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late James B. and William Vantilla Overton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Colonel (Ret.) USAF William Alexander "Alex" Allen; daughter, Zelda Allen andher six siblings.
Doris was emploued for many years at Barr Bros. Jewelers, D. Keith Teague, Attorney-At-Law, and Dr. Peter Erickson, DDS. She was instrumental in organizing the Food Bank of the Albemarle serving on the Board of Directors for six years and then as a volunteer for over 15 years.
She is survived by her husband, James H. Allen; three sons, Ronnie E. Allen (Franscene), Michael Allen and William D. Allen(Pamela); one daughter, Linda Briggs (Wilbert), daughter-in-law, Helen Allen; Seven grandchildren, William Allen, Jr., Winser Allen, Ronnie Allen, Jr., Lativia Allen, Felicia Allen, Jeremy Barclift, and Sholanda Davis, eight great grandchildren, Taneyll Allen, Amaiya Allen, Jeremiah Allen, Shi'era Allen, Jaylan Blackman, Jasmine Johnson, Christian Johnson, and Zoe Knuckle; sister-in-law Carolyn Allen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Cann Memorial Presbyterian Church, 311 W. Main Street, Elizabeth City, N.C.
Viewing will take place at A. C. Robinson & Son Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M.
